About Us

ProfitableForAllThings.com is a service of Treat Bancroft Enterprises, LLC based in Austin, Texas and managed by Darin Davis.

A Bit of History

I (Darin) moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in January 1997 to work for a network consulting company. By the end of 1997, I considered buying a two bedroom condo in San Ramon, but decided not to because I would have had very little money left after making the monthly mortgage payment. This proved to be my first (negative) lesson in real estate. Three years later, in 2000, that same condo had doubled in value and my rent had skyrocketed.

Realizing my mistake, I bought a townhouse in Walnut Creek. This proved to be my second (positive) lesson in real estate because by 2005 the townhouse had nearly doubled in value.

By this time I had married, and with my wife decided that we wanted a larger home in which to raise family. So, we bought a house in Concord with twice the square footage and a mortgage 2.5 times that of the townhouse.

In 2006, we began studying real estate by reading books and attending seminars. At a seminar in July 2006, we realized that California real estate had peaked and we were in a very precarious situation. Our home's value was starting to decline, we had a very large (in fact, unsustainable) mortgage and no cash to invest. This was my third major lesson in real estate.

So, in a matter of weeks, we sold our house in Concord. We moved to Austin where the real estate market was growing and the cost of living was much lower than California. We used the equity accumulated in California to buy several investment properties.

Mission Statement

A story is told of a young banker who asked an old banker how he became so successful. The old banker told the young banker, "Good decisions." Not satisfied with that answer, the young banker asked, "How did you learn to make good decisions?" The old banker replied, "Bad decisions."

The mission of ProfitableForAllThings.com is to provide tools for financial discipline. It is our sincere hope that these tools help you minimize bad finanical decisions and maximize good financial decisions.

The motivation for providing these tools comes from two sources. First, friends have asked us for help in real estate investing. We have much to share from first-hand experience, not just about real estate but about personal finances in general. Second, tools for financial discipline complements the mission of ProfitableForAllThings.net, which provides tools for spiritual discipline.
